Melissa Marie Kelly was born on June 4, 1968, in Alabama, to William John and Barbara Jenon (Dirks) Greiner.

She spent her formative years in Sioux City and Orange City and graduated from MOC High School. Following high school, Melissa attended the University of Northern Iowa before eventually returning to Orange City.

There, she became involved in the local business community and managed several businesses over the years.

Her life in Orange City allowed her to build lasting relationships while remaining close to the family, friends and community that meant so much to her.

Family Was an Important Part of Melissa’s Life

Melissa married Michael Kelly, and the couple were blessed with two children, Tayler and Spencer.

One of the memorable chapters of their family life involved restoring an early 1900s house situated on an acreage south of Orange City.

As her children grew older, Melissa also experienced the joy of becoming a grandmother. Her grandson, Hugo L’amoureux-Wu, became another cherished member of the family she loved deeply.

Melissa is survived by her children, Tayler L’amoureux and Spencer Kelly and his fiancée, Briana Van Ravenswaay, all of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

She also leaves behind her grandson, Hugo L’amoureux-Wu; her mother, Barbara Greiner of Orange City; and her sister, Jenon Stroup and her husband, Cory, of Minnetonka, Minnesota.

Her extended family includes her niece, Briana Harber and her husband, Dylan, and her nephew, Brendan Bailie.

Melissa was preceded in death by her father, Bill Greiner.

Her passing leaves her loved ones with decades of memories spanning family gatherings, holidays, summers at Okoboji and the many ordinary moments that ultimately become some of the most meaningful parts of a person’s life.

Melissa M. Kelly Memorial Service

Family and friends will have an opportunity to gather and honor Melissa’s life on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation with the family present is scheduled from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m.

The Rev. Bryce Vander Stelt will officiate the service.

Memorial contributions will be given to Melissa’s family for future designation.

The gathering will provide an opportunity for those who knew Melissa to offer their condolences, support her family and remember the experiences they shared with her.
