Early Life and Education

David was born on November 16, 1961, the youngest of five sons born to George and Corrine (Darah) Joseph.

Growing up as part of the Joseph family helped shape many of the relationships and traditions that would remain important throughout his life.

He attended Maumee Valley Country Day School before graduating from Southview High School. David later continued his education at the University of Toledo, where he became a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity.

His fraternity relationships became another meaningful part of his younger years, and he was remembered as a beloved brother within Alpha Sigma Phi.

A Life in the Joseph Family Businesses

Business and entrepreneurship played central roles throughout David’s adult life.

He began working with Joseph’s Supermarkets at a young age, continuing a family tradition that would eventually become an important part of his professional identity.

Another memorable part of David’s church involvement was his enthusiastic support of the Ladies’ Benevolent Society dinner. He became known as the event’s top ticket seller each year, reflecting both his outgoing personality and willingness to support his church community.

For David’s family and friends, backyard gatherings, conversations, laughter and shared meals will remain reminders of the personality and hospitality he brought into their lives.

Cigars, Bourbon and Fine Wine

David had several interests that those close to him immediately associated with his personality.

He was a cigar aficionado, bourbon collector and fine-wine enthusiast, interests that complemented his love of entertaining and spending time with friends and family.

He appreciated opportunities to gather people together, enjoy good food and conversation, and create experiences that strengthened relationships.

David also enjoyed traveling to Marco Island, Florida, particularly later in life. Those visits continued a tradition originally established by his parents and became another meaningful connection between his own experiences and his family’s history.

A Passionate Sports Fan

Sports also held a special place in David’s life.

He was a devoted supporter of the University of Toledo football and basketball programs, maintaining a strong connection with the university he had attended.

David also proudly supported Ohio State, giving him plenty of opportunities throughout the year to enjoy college athletics with family and friends.

For those who watched games alongside him, his enthusiasm and personality likely made the experience about much more than the final score.

A Proud Father and Grandfather

Despite his professional achievements and community involvement, family remained at the heart of David’s life.

He is survived by his four children, David M. (Jamie Spencer), Samantha (Nick Carmony), Valerie and Joshua (Mychal Naylor).

His children now carry forward the memories, traditions and experiences they shared with their father throughout his life.

David also found tremendous happiness in being a grandfather.

He was the proud grandfather of Chloe, David III and Leo, and at the time of his passing, he was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his fourth grandchild this fall.

The joy he took in his grandchildren became another meaningful chapter in a life strongly rooted in family.

Remembered by His Brothers and Extended Family

David is also survived by his brothers G. Christopher (Regina), Bradley (Elizabeth) and Craig (Michelle), together with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Corrine Joseph, and his brother Paul.

As the youngest of five brothers, David belonged to a family connected through decades of shared experiences, business ventures, traditions and memories.

Those relationships remained an important part of his life and will now form part of the legacy his family carries forward.

David Joseph Funeral and Visitation Arrangements

Family, friends, business associates and members of the community will have an opportunity to gather and pay their respects to David.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 14, 2026, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at St. George Antiochian Cathedral, 3754 Woodley Road in Toledo.

A Trisagion Prayer Service will take place at 7 p.m. during Friday’s visitation.

Visitation will continue on Saturday, August 15, beginning at 11 a.m., followed by David’s funeral service at noon, also at St. George Antiochian Cathedral.

Following the funeral, David will be laid to rest at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, his family has requested that memorial contributions be made to St. George Antiochian Cathedral, allowing those wishing to honor David to support the faith community that played such an important role throughout his life.

A Legacy of Family, Faith and Hard Work

David M. Joseph’s 64 years were shaped by the people and communities he cared deeply about.

He was a businessman who helped continue a family entrepreneurial tradition, a church member who gave his time and support, a sports fan who proudly supported his teams, and a man who enjoyed good food, travel, cigars, bourbon, wine and gatherings with the people closest to him.

Most importantly, he was a father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

After battling cancer for 3½ years, David’s passing brings an especially difficult chapter for those who walked alongside him during his illness. Yet his life will be remembered for far more than the disease he faced during his final years.
